The diver behind the lens

I learned to dive in 2008 and instantly fell in love. Not long after, I moved abroad for my divemaster internship and ended up working as a dive guide in Borneo, where my passion for macro life began. Eventually I returned home to finish my degree, and these days I coach competitive gymnastics for a living, but diving has never stopped being my biggest passion.

It wasn’t until 2023 that I picked up a camera underwater - encouraged by my dad, who was an underwater photography hobbyist for years. I wanted a new challenge after so many years in the water, and I found one: learning to see and capture stories of the reef through a lens.

That challenge deepened my adoration of the small, easily overlooked details of life below the surface - the intricate textures of obscure macro life, the galaxy found within an animal’s eye, the quiet architecture of coral most divers swim right past without a second look. Underwater macro rewards patience more than luck: hovering still enough, long enough, for a fish to “kiss” its eggs or a frogfish to “yawn”. That’s the part I love most - when the ocean carries on like you’re not there, and every so often you capture a frame of it.
